GO DUNGARVAN FIRST YEAR PEDOMETER CHALLENGE

Congratulations to Cian Power who won our first pedometer Challenge. The students were given a pedometer for a week and asked to record their steps. The goal was a minimum of 15,000 steps a day. Initially some were disappointed to see how little they were clocking up but they quickly got moving and the steps began to clock up quicker and quicker each day. Eventually Cian came out on top after making a huge effort. Well done to all First years and hopefully they will keep up the great effort on the next challenge after mid term.

CADETTE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Hard luck to the cadette girls volleyball who had a super battle against Scoil Mhuire from Ennis in the All Ireland Quarter Final recently. We were on top in the opening set with Marie Ward serving powerfully and winning numerous points. Kellie Tutty was all over the court with some lovely flicks and Freya Skelsey was volleying deftly. Teanna Clifford was super at returning their serves whilst Áine Walsh  and Shannon Kearney were setting really well. Grace Power, Kirsten Young and Niamh Fitzpatrick were on hand to help. With such great team work we won the second set comfortably. Unfortunately we sat back at the start of the second set and Ennis took a five point lead, we finally woke up and the rest of the set was point for point but it was too late to come back. The third set was a battle both teams made some unforced errors with nerves beginning to show. Unfortunately after trying really hard Scoil Mhuire came out on top 26-24. Hard luck girls

Home Ec Students “Take Away My Way”
Over the past few weeks Home Economics students at Colaiste Chathail Naofa have completed in the All Ireland Cookery Competition “Take Away My Way”. The Take Away My Way All Island Cookery Competition gives students an opportunity to create tasty, healthy versions of their favourite takeaway. This year’s competition invites students to create a mouth-watering, healthy takeaway dish for two people. The final will be held on the 8th and 9th of May 2013 in St. Angela’s College, Sligo. The final is judged by a panel of experts including award winning chef Neven Maguire. The prizes include two iPads, a class trip to Neven Maguire’s cookery school and vouchers.

 1st Years Pancake Party
On Thursday last 1st year Home Economics hosted a Pancake Party. The Pancake party was run as a fundraiser for the National Children’s Hospital. All students had a fun and delicious time raising funds for a great cause! The money raised will enable staff at The National Children’s Hospital to continue to work and ensure that children in their care are treated in a comfortable child-friendly environment.
